Constitution Day Bill of Rights Booklet, Middle School: One Amendment Per Page
Ten pages. One amendment each. Every one of them exists because something happened to somebody, and this book starts there instead of with the definition.

By the end of this
- Your child can explain why a right exists by describing what went wrong without it
- Your child can tell the difference between what a law says and what it allowed in practice
Your child is ready for this if they
- Reads a page and can say what it argued
- Will sit with a question that has no tidy answer
That list matters more than the age we printed on it. You know which of the two is true of your child.
The amendment itself, an engraving, a worked table, and a position to take and defend in writing.
Every amendment in this book began as a complaint. Somebody was jailed for printing, taxed for a church they did not attend, searched without cause, or made to feed soldiers in their own kitchen. The Bill of Rights is the list of things that had already gone wrong.
