Constitution Day Bill of Rights Booklet, High School: One Amendment Per Page

Ten pages. One amendment each. Every one of them exists because something happened to somebody, and this book starts there instead of with the definition.

Three pages of Constitution Day Bill of Rights Booklet, High School: One Amendment Per Page, laid out as they print
The first pages, as they print at home

By the end of this

  • Your child can read the amendment text itself and paraphrase it accurately
  • Your child can argue a position on a rights question and support it from the text

Your child is ready for this if they

  • Reads primary source text
  • Can take a position and give reasons for it

That list matters more than the age we printed on it. You know which of the two is true of your child.

A primary source first, then claim and counter-claim built at full strength, then a judgment with the evidence under it.

Every amendment in this book began as a complaint. Somebody was jailed for printing, taxed for a church they did not attend, searched without cause, or made to feed soldiers in their own kitchen. The Bill of Rights is the list of things that had already gone wrong.
